This 19th century work by Czech artist Alfons Mucha illustrates the first line of the Lord’s Prayer, found in Matthew 6:9-13, in which Christ prays as a model for us. The background is covered in six-pointed stars, representative of God and creation. The woman inside the moon represents love descending from heaven. The anchor and the ark in the bottom two corners represent hope, peace, and deliverance–particularly in times of trial. These symbols and others present remind us of our connection to and dependence upon God and how we can strengthen our relationship with Him through prayer.
